Our vision

As a family, our last few years have been a journey of healing. Food intolerances, behavioural and learning issues, chronic pain and other health problems have led us on a voyage of discovery. This website aims to share what we have found and the directions that have been helpful to us. Our vision is of a world where people live in health, wholeness and in alignment with their highest and best – a world where stewardship of this planet springs from a place of integrity and respect.

Did you know…

The words Health, Whole, and Holy all derive from the Old English word ‘Hal’, meaning ‘entire, unhurt, healthy’.

Unfortunately the mainstream ‘health’ industry has not always taken a wholistic approach to wellness. Too often, instead of asking what makes us healthy it has focused its studies on sickness.

Amazing progress has been made, and modern medicine can cure many illnesses that were once thought incurable. Yet despite this, are our modern Western societies any healthier? Illnesses such as cancer, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, depression, ADHD, ME, autism and various forms of dementia seem to be just as prevalent – if not increasing.

Chemicals, chemicals everywhere

In the last 30 years or so there has been an explosion in the numbers of chemicals that our bodies are exposed to, from artificial preservatives, flavourings and colourings in foods to all sorts of toxins in cleaning products, shampoos, cosmetics, toothpaste … the list goes on. A couple of generations back, most food was grown naturally on farms with relatively little use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, then sold, unprocessed, to the consumers. Nowadays the food often originates on huge corporate-owned factory farms, produced using pesticides, hormones and genetic modification. It is then highly processed – often destroying whatever nutritional value is left – and has artificial flavourings, colours and preservatives added.

In the 1930s the South American Cane Toad was introduced to Queensland in an attempt to control sugar cane pests and increase yields. Without understanding the complexity of the fragile ecosytem, the sugar growers tried to manipulate nature for higher profits. It was, and continues to be, an environmental disaster. But have we learned the lessons? Today the big agri-business and food corporations are also manipulating nature through genetic modification, the use of growth hormones and antibiotics, and through feeding livestock artificial foods processed from waste that they were never designed to eat. Can we really trust them when they say it is safe?

Add to all of this our exposure to high energy electromagnitic waves from mobile phones and transmitter masts, and we see that our families are guinea-pigs in a grand experiment. And the results are just beginning to come in … increasing incidence of cancer, cardio-vascular disease, irritable bowel syndrome, behavioural problems, ME … the list goes on.

And now, the good news

Just as awareness is growing when it comes to protecting the environment, so too there is a growing awareness of the factors that make for wellness. Our page on wellness lists some of the discoveries that we have made in the areas of diet, cosmetics, emotional well-being and sleep.
